Final Video - Between The World and Me

Here's my final video for this project. It explores the words of Ta-Nehisi Coates in his letter he wrote to his son.

Final Vid

I coded the game to randomly play 1 of 8 songs upon opening but it didn't load in the build :[
Still trying to figure the WebGL also but other than that it looks moderately cool.

Here is the link to my final project.

If you view the project on a computer you can scan the codes to see videos, sites, etc.
Thanks

Final Project

Here's a video of my final gallery. Each sculpture is in its own room, that's designed in a slightly different way. There's a plaque in each room that translates what the sculptures represent. They also have their own interaction (which I ended up just using straight up C# because Bolt ended up giving me problems).

First Sculpture: Press the left arrow key to randomly change colors
Second Sculpture: Collide/run into the sculpture to change its rotation
Third Sculpture: Click with your mouse to see the gradual rotation of the cylinders

 4/11 Update

Between The World and Me

I decided to do a mixture of my own footage and various footage from people to create a video homage to the book 'Between The World and Me'. The images and clips will mere Mr. Coates's literature and synopsis of not having control over your body and how it looks for different people to experience that. I am creating a poem from the words in his book to go along with the video.

Unity Space Update

Lauren P. Project Update

I edited my original space I created to make a more relaxing and unique atmosphere. When thinking about how I wanted to display my work I knew I didn't want it to be a regular gallery with a ceiling and 4 walls. I wanted to create a space that was "zen" and also allowed people to feel like they are in nature while in a gallery space.

When further exploring my subject of mental health and how technology is playing a role in that, I knew I had to take a different approach and bring people back to nature. With our current life of being indoors and always on our phones, I wanted to take a look back on what life used to be like. I explored old videos I took from last summer and wanted to create a short video that displays the simplicity of nature and life.

I created a tv in my gallery space that is playing this video with sound. I might also add images to the other wall to make the gallery more complete.

4/11 Update

While in quarantine, I've been working on a few digital illustrations. When I started really getting the hang of Unity I decided to make a "space" showcasing these illustrations. From there, I built larger interactive spaces and so on. I had a lot more fun creating this, and I hope you guys will like this version better than the other idea too.

P.S. This is an older screenshot. The space is a lot more immersive. Didn't want to give too much away. Kinda excited!!

I started playing around with this app called display.land that allows you to scan 3d objects and place them in unity. heres a little vid of my rollerskate as a 3d project, so cool! it takes a long time so this is a scan that was only about 50%, and it already picked up a lot of detail.

so then trying to paly the skate in unity things got a bit crazy.... basically in the app you can crop things out to make your skate look all pretty, but once in unity it un-crops everything. so I did find a video on how you can uncrop things so I want to do that next.

now im working more on creating a world where the skate is, with the journal entries on adventures in rollerskating, each a different step. this is based on "planet rollerskate" which is a shop in california that is the top rollerskating shop, owned by the "moxie girl" skate team.

:)

5/11 Progress

I decided to remake my entire project and focus on the aesthetics first because I have the interactive stuff figured out already.

I also used a little bit of C# to make some objects float on a y-axis.

Here's the code I used:

Update 5/4

Started adding pieces to my gallery/tunnel. I plan to add at least 10 more works, plus some 3D models, maybe some rooms attached to the main tunnel for video/audio. Might try to create frames for each of the works as well? Video of the tunnel so far attached

Progress (Lauren S.)

I finalized the videos, and Unity piece. I have sent my file to the Prof. via dropbox, to see if he can embed it onto a site. That's all.

Sound of Color Progress (Serena H)

I definitely have gotten more comfortable playing around with Unity now. I was able to assign sounds to colors and created my base structure.

The sounds play when u click on the color. I'm still going to add more features around this but for now I started with the 'skeleton' part of the project.

I can't show the test on this post but i will test it live in class.

See you guys at 6.30!
